In the spotlight with vac scheme student: George Skinner

Why did you choose to apply to OC?

When choosing which vacation schemes to apply for, both the reputation and culture of Osborne Clarke stood out. Coupled with the firms’ ambitious plans, I quickly realised that OC was the law firm for me. When I got to the firm these thoughts were compounded by the warm welcome and responsibilities I was given, with everyone keen to assure me that being a part of Osborne Clarke was as much about the culture as it was providing quality legal expertise.

What did you get involved with during your placement?

Coming from a geographical background, I was surprised by the amount of work I could get involved with. The responsibilities the team entrusted me with from day one was a welcome challenge, and encouraged a far greater level of learning than shadowing fellow colleagues. Companies House checks and Land Registry searches were just some of the key tasks that I completed over the two weeks, resulting in a real sense of achievement from the placement as this work was subsequently passed on to the clients of Osborne Clarke.

The group assessment presented a challenge I had not previously encountered. The need to work collectively on a legal project after only two weeks hinted at the importance of a team ethic to Osborne Clarke, and is a task that I look forward to experiencing on a more regular basis when my training contract begins.

From the open plan offices to the constant interaction with partners, everything about Osborne Clarke welcomes graduates to the firm, and I for one cannot wait to begin my training contract.
