Why did you choose to apply to OC?
Coming to law from a career in media, I initially chose OC for two reasons: the first was the firm’s excellent reputation for work in the digital business sector, and the second was its forward-thinking, less traditionally corporate ethos.
What did you get involved with during your placement?
Throughout my placement I sat in on calls to clients, drafted standard terms of purchase and had the opportunity to have a good in-depth chat with associates about life post-qualification and the kind of work that they do now. We visited the London office for a day focussed on IP, and also spent some time volunteering at a local community centre that OC has strong links to. Both of these sessions really allowed us to see the full picture of OC as a firm.
The highlight of my placement was being able to put my skills to the test and write a research note for a partner on an area of law that they weren’t familiar with – needless to say, I wasn’t familiar with it either – and getting positive feedback for my efforts. It was great to feel like a valued part of the team, as well as experiencing first-hand how I would receive feedback and learn as a trainee.
