Why did you want to pursue a career at Osborne Clarke?

Having worked in Australia, and at a number of firms in the UK, I was drawn to Osborne Clarke because of its desire to grow and expand its service offering (particularly in the life sciences and healthcare sector) while at the same time retaining its culture and commitment to diversity and inclusion. The firm has provided an ideal platform and a supportive environment in which I’ve been able to develop my practice as a partner.

What drew you to qualify into Corporate?

I trained at a leading firm in Australia and my first seat was in the Corporate team doing a range of corporate and commercial work. The highlight of my time in the group was working on the Australian aspects of a global M&A transaction. Even as the most junior lawyer working on the deal, I felt like I was a key member of the team. It was exciting to see the deal close successfully, particularly knowing that I’d helped make it happen (in the smallest of ways!).

If you’re involved in recruitment, what do we look for throughout the recruitment process?

I’ve been involved with the recruitment process at Osborne Clarke since I joined the firm and find it thoroughly rewarding. I really enjoy getting the opportunity to meet candidates at the start of their journey in becoming a lawyer. We look for sharp minds, talent and enthusiasm, but we don’t look for one particular type of candidate. My advice is: be yourself!

Could you tell us more about your involvement in OC Gender?

I’m one of the Partner Champions for OC Gender, the network within Osborne Clarke which focuses on gender equality and inclusion. The objectives of OC Gender include improving the retention, progression and senior representation of women within Osborne Clarke, as well as providing a support network. COVID-19 has presented a great opportunity for us to challenge social norms about caring responsibilities and working practices, to make Osborne Clarke an even more inclusive environment. As a partner, I know that improving gender balance and increasing diversity and inclusion are critical to our success as a firm.
